District Karachi Central declared highly sensitive area during Muharram

14/11/02  KARACHI: District Central of Karachi, with the highest number of Imam-bargahs in the city has been declared as a highly sensitive zone during this Muharram too, with a deployment of 5845 police force, besides rangers. During this Muharram and Saffar (Islamic months) approval for 3853 processions by the followers of Fiqh-e- Jafaria and 948 by the members of the other community has been sought from the district administration that has also granted permission for 738 majalis in Imam- Bargahs and 306 at home. During Muharram 9 and 10, the 210 processions will be taken out in the district while 75 majalis will be held at Imam-Bargahs and 60 at private residences, provided with all needed security and assistance by the administration.

Ninety different sites have been identified as trouble spots with special security cum administrative measures for these areas, said the officials.

Moreover, to avoid any mishap with specific reference to combat possible IED blast, the administration after taking special measures to prune trees, bushes and plantation besides removal of debris has also procured certification from police team, headed by a DSP level police officer and senior KWSB official confirming that no possible risk exists for the threat. Moreover, to avoid any threat to the participants of the processions, mourners as well as people in general, all the main streets have been carpeted while uninterrupted power supply, water supply and other relevant facilities has also been ensured for Imam Bargahs and mosques, besides to the people in general. All sorts of public mobility, traffic flow and occurrences on thoroughfares in the district are also being monitored through close circuit cameras installed in the control room operative at the DC Office of the district.
